October 25,1864, two union brigades met General Sterling Price and the armies of Missouri. The roughly 2,600 men of the Union forces defeated the 7,000 Confederates in the second of three encounters, leading to the Confederates being forced out of Kansas and dooming Price's Missouri campaign.
