Battle of Mine Creek

October 25,1864, two union brigades met General Sterling Price and the armies of Missouri. The roughly 2,600 men of the Union forces defeated the 7,000 Confederates in the second of three encounters, leading to the Confederates being forced out of Kansas and dooming Price's Missouri campaign. This was a big moment for the Kansas people as they finally drove out slavery, after Kansas being a very controversial territory for a long time. You can discover more about this thrilling story by visiting the Mine Creek Battlefield. The Battle of Mine Creek was fought just southwest of Pleasanton, Kansas.

University of Kansas Jayhawks

Kansas is home to many colleges, including the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence, Kansas. Lawrence is located in the far eastern part of Kansas, south of Kansas City.

KU's  most popular attraction is their home basketball games at Allen Fieldhouse, were the Jayhawks consistently create winning seasons and clinch high seeds into the Postseason Tournament. Not as highly popular, but still a lot of fun is Memorial Stadium, home of Jayhawk's football. You can also take a tour of the campus to explore what it is like to be at KU. If you do not care for the University of Kansas, other colleges in Kansas include Wichita State in Wichita, Kansas, and Kansas State in Manhattan, Kansas.
